History of Dudley Nautilus
In 1973 a group of Black Country scuba diving enthusiasts founded Dudley Nautilus Sub Aqua Club and in 2016 we celebrated 40 years of being a British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) member.
Today the Dudley Nautilus has almost 50 members ranging from new Ocean Diver trainees to Advanced Divers. We have three BSAC-qualified scuba diving Instructors ranging from Open Water to Advanced, and four Assistant Instructors working their way towards Open Water Instructor. Our active diving members range in age from 18 to something they won’t tell us!
Our Club base is Netherton Reservoir (Lodge Farm Reservoir) near Dudley, UK. We hold Club dives there every Saturday morning as well as social events and night dives.
We hire the pool at Halesowen Leisure Centre every Thursday night 7-8pm so that members can use this free of charge for scuba training, snorkelling or swimming. After going to the pool, we go back to the Clubhouse for a drink and chat.
Facilities and Equipment
Netherton Reservoir has an extensive underwater rope course that divers can follow around the ‘attractions’, and then back on land we have excellent facilities to make use of after a dive. These include heated changing rooms with showers (very useful in winter), a fully-fitted kitchen, bar and classroom.
We also have a range of equipment that our members can borrow to use on Club dives.
We do more than just dive! We try to organise a range of social events throughout the year so that our members can get to know each other above water. These are also open to non-diving family and friends. Take a look at our events page in order to find out what we’re up to in as well as diving and training.
